Choosing or changing your primary care doctor

Your primary care doctor (PCP) is the doctor you see first for most care. If you have a Medicare Advantage or other managed care plan, your plan keeps a record of which PCP you have.

To choose or change your PCP

1. Find a doctor in our directory. Each doctor’s page lists the office address and phone.
2. Call the office to confirm they take your insurance.
3. Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask to change your PCP. Your health plan makes the change. The doctor’s office cannot make it for you.

When the change takes effect

Most plans make the change on the 1st of the following month. Your plan will tell you the exact date.

Checking that a doctor works with your plan or medical group

Call the member services number on your insurance card. They can tell you which doctors and medical groups are in your plan.
