Urgent Care FAQ

An urgent care center can provide patients with high-quality medical care for minor illnesses and injuries.

Urgent care centers should not replace primary care physicians. The purpose of these medical services is to provide patients with another option if they don’t have a primary physician available. Ensure that you follow up with your physician after your visit to the urgent care center.

It depends on the circumstances whether you will be charged. The insurance company or healthcare provider does not expect that medical advice and time will be free. In some cases, if a physician refers you out before he or she has completed a complete evaluation, you may not be charged. Even if the medical provider cannot treat the condition in the office, you will receive a charge for the office visit if the medical provider examines you and determines you require another type of treatment (emergency room, specialist). Contact 911 or go to an emergency room if you have symptoms or conditions that are life-threatening.

The emergency department provides immediate care for illnesses and injuries, while urgent care centers treat non-life-threatening conditions only. More serious illnesses and injuries are treated in the emergency room, such as seizures, excessive bleeding, major trauma, obstetric complications, heart problems, etc.

Sprains, skin rashes, fractures, infections, etc., can all be treated in urgent care centers. You may also benefit from going to an urgent care facility if your primary care physician is unavailable to treat you for common illnesses such as the flu or a cold.

An appointment is highly recommended, and on busy days, we may only accept patients who have checked in. Although walk-ins are accepted, the wait time may be longer than for scheduled check-ins, since scheduled patients receive priority over walk-ins. Make an appointment to speed up the check-in process!

Insurance is not required for treatment. Cash, checks, and most major credit cards are accepted. The full service fee must be paid at the time of service if you are a private pay patient.

Be sure to bring a photo ID along with your insurance cards. In order to help us in your treatment, please bring any images or laboratory work you have taken before the appointment. Please also let us know which medications and supplements you take, along with their dosages.

Generally, urgent care centers are less expensive than emergency rooms.
